Dedham School 8th grader Callie Hanscom has been working hard this year to submit her artwork in a Scholastic art competition. It has 3 tiers and is for students in grades 7-12. The results of the first tier, the Maine Region Scholastic Art Awards were released on Friday.
There were over 1100 artworks submitted from Maine students in eighteen creative categories. Only ⅓ can receive awards based on originality, technical skill, and emergence of personal vision or voice. Awards are given at 3 levels, Honorable Mention, Silver Key and Gold Key. Callie submitted 3 artworks and won a silver key and 2 gold keys. Gold and Silver Key awardees will be invited to exhibit their works at the Maine College of Art & Design in Portland. All Honorable Mention, Silver Key and Gold Key Awardees will be invited to the Awards Ceremony at Portland Stage and will exhibit their work at the State Capitol Complex. Callie’s two gold key artworks will move on to the national level! Let’s wish her the best on this wonderful endeavor.
